Landing - La Brêche

EN

“The Petty Officer Raymond DUMENOIR, Seaman Raymond FLESCH, and Seaman Jean ROUSSEAU belonged to Troop 1 of No. 4 Commando (formerly part of the 1st BFMC), which embarked on June 5th aboard landing craft 527 and landed on June 6th, 1944, at 7:23 AM on Sword Beach.

Attacked immediately upon arrival on the beach, they were cut down by German machine gun and sniper fire. They were among the nine members of the commando killed on D-Day.

Of the 177 Frenchmen who landed, 20 were killed and only 23 escaped injury during the Normandy campaign, which lasted 78 days instead of the initially planned three or four."
